First Call PDF Print E-mail
ImageFor people who are physically challenged or have health problems, latch key children, heart attack victims, parents of infants or toddlers, singles, seniors, the hearing impaired or stroke victims, the "First Call" program can provide peace of mind at a remarkably low cost.

How it works:
The heart of First Call, this advanced telephone system features the most sophisticated 2-way voice technology available. Its superior speaker clarity, range and built-in battery back-up make it a secure, effective link to our response center. This emergency response pendant can be worn at all times, indoors and out. If a situation arises and help is needed, a simple touch of the button activates the phone's speaker system and contacts our Response Center.

Our professionally trained alarm dispatchers are available 24-hours a day. when contacted, an automated computer system displays all necessary subscriber information, such as: address, family contacts and medical history. The phone's powerful speaker even allows conversation from across the room. If emergency medical help is needed, the appropriate authorities will be contacted immediately and will be on the way. If the situation is not an emergency, a pre-determined friend, neighbor or family-member can be called to assist.

How to get it:
If you live anywhere in Eastern Iowa, call Patty or Jan at 1-800-927-6068 or 319-462-3541 to schedule an appointment. Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative does not have to be your electricity provider in order to receive this service. MVEC installs and services the "First Call" telephone and pendant system which is monitored by a 24-hour professional monitoring service.

How much does it cost?
A one-time installation fee of $35.00, plus applicable taxes, will be charged for all systems installed by Cooperative personnel.  A monthly monitoring/lease fee of $24.50, plus applicable taxes, will be billed to all clients not covered under the Iowa Medicaid waiver programs.
